Hi James,
If you want to buy once, go for a good new 60MHz/dual trace scope or
better - They can be had for reasonable prices and it will keep you
happy for good while.
I've had too many headaches with used scopes in the past - they always
crap out just when you need them most and then you're back down at
OScope Joe's Used Scope lot kicking tires again. :-(
OTOH used is good if you know about the scope you're buying - you know
it's good and it has no 'issues'.
Even if you're working only with audio frequencies, its nice to be able
to detect unwanted RF oscillation/ringing in a circuit, and measure
nanosecond rise/fall times, etc.
It's like choosing digital cameras - Cheap cameras will give you small
fuzzy pictures, better cameras will give you big sharp pictures that
show more detail. In scopes, more bandwidth = more detail.
