[sdiy] 9400 Frequency to Voltage IC?

 Hi all. A friend has just given me the great present of "music Synthesizer A mnual of design and construction"

 I love it! Anyway, in it there is a design for a frequency to voltage converter. It uses a 9400 F/V IC. I cant seem to find it. Is there another part that is the same thing?
 Also if anyone is familiar with this book, there are alot of designs that go on different voltages. I was hoping to use 12v for things. How easy is it to change things to make them work on a different voltage than in the book?
