For just this reason... I use solid bus wire
covered in Teflon insulated sleeve.  You can
easily cut the sleeve to length (unlike STRIPPING
Teflon wire...) and you cannot melt the Teflon
with a soldering iron.

Second best choice is Kynar insulated wire... it CAN
be melted but you have to work at it.

(worst if PVC, which melts under a stern look :^)
