Laughs - Well, this is definitely an understatment!

I applaud your ability to try and make sense out of the math  -especially on 
a regular, ol' computer keyboard - I've always gone crazy trying to represent 
all the 'symbology' accurately with only ASCII symbols - I've tried some 
'math' apps, with all the symbols, etc....but it was more of a headache than its 
worth.  (at least for this feeble mind)

And also, in regards to this rather complex thread - back in school, we 
usually had to "do the math 'model' thing", and then  - actually build the freakin 
circuit - Well, the actual real-world circuit NEVER followed the math-model 
closely enough or to ANY point anywhere near "my becoming religous about math" 
as something that could help 'me' in creative ways.  Sure it could from a 
straightforward - slot 'a' into slot 'b' kinda mentality - but I guess I just never 
got interested in that 'vector'

Hence - I concluded that it wasn't a very 'creative' tool for me.  Now this 
statement, I'm sure is plainly some ignorance on my part - but then again, I 
find the whole concept of "numbers and their intimate relationships" sometimes 
pretty fascinating and very useful if you're looking for some theoretical 
'significances'...possibly leading to more enjoyable, creative ones...once again, 
just me.

I guess this is where my 'right' and 'left' brains say: "Adios Amigos!" 
however, in the long run.

I like to hear great music - not necessarily try and figure out why it is 
great via some numerical analysis.  And unfortunately there are way too many 
flippin' books that approach the topic from this viewpoint - its really disgusting 
to me at this time - and I've never met a truly gifted composer (and I'm 
talking some very heavy-hitters here) who even come close to caring or buying into 
this WAY overworked and overrated deadzone!


Now 'chaos' theories, etc - just BEGIN to approach an aesthetic level, and 
pretty measley at that comparatively speaking - but that is why I sorta like it 
- without knowing too much math-wise about it.  I'm just lazy perhaps.

What does all this have to do with Filters?  Well I think it would behoove 
all to get some math under their belts so you can 'know' the basic ground rules. 
 (yet things will still not always work right and occassionally blow up). 

Then tear it all apart and fly the heck where ever you want to go without too 
many restrictions placed on your thoughts  - I think thats how a new great 
filter or VCO or...whatever, will come to be.  (Actually, I don't think we need 
any more VCOs - but thats just my opinion - please prove me wrong here...)

Sorry to be long here - I hope I've made some point(s) worth pondering- I'm 
just compelled, like everyone else - to work towards an understanding that will 
help the many, more so than just the few!

Keep those filter (and math) snippets coming - lets just not blow ourselves 
out of the water at this point!

But it also sounds like someone should be writing a book on the theoretical 
"stuff" behind 'modern-day' synth circuits - I know...ElectroNotes has already 
been done -  but thats about the ONLY time it has to any decent extent - don't 
we need an updated, "in the new millineum" kinda 'bible'?  And one that 
places more emphasis on the end-resultant creative aspects, with a decent 
explanation of the 'mathematical' stuff, yet not to the point where you get lost, 
in...significances.....

I'm just working on the music end - so I'm certain there are many others more 
qualified than I to take care of this present day gap!  And I think all those 
potentially capable of doing this are RIGHT HERE - lurking or whatever - 
scribbling little notes down, here and there, already having begun this worthy 
task -
