The "copyright" only covers the exact artwork of the
schematic and/or pc board.

If you "photograph" the existing board you have
violated
the copyright.

If you re-layout the board (parts in different places
etc) this is not copyright violation.

If you re-draw the schematic yourself, it is not
copyright violation.

Copyright offers little real protection to a design...
worry more about patents.

iirc Copyrights go for 55 years in the USA (well, I
think this has been extended...)
