Where I prefer a particular VCO over others, it's usually because the VCO
in question in far from 'ideal' in it's operation.
Waveforms that change shape across the frequency range, and spectral
characteristics that differ from the mathematical 'definition' of square,
saw, triangle etc., will all impart character. Whether it's a nice
character or not is a matter of opinion.
