Hi, Scott, Yves- thanks for the replies! I have always wanted to try out a VCF built around these chips- I've designed the circuit and can fire on!

The difference is in how the output stage was biased. If I remember correctly, I think the LM13600 took its bias current off the Ibias control current, so it variaed as the control current varied. This caused control feedthrough problems. The LM13700 uses a fixed bias.
You should be able to substitute the LM13700 for the LM13600 no problem - you might even get a little better performance. If you are not using the output stage, they will be identical.
