I have been interested in the idea of an analog video synth for the last 2 
years, and for the last 6 month have been testing some things.

It is quite easy the produce a composite sync signal with the Philips 
SAA1101 (universal sync generator) (both pal and ntsc capable)

I planned to make about 12 oscilator (vc) with a (switchable) range from 
about 50 hz to 1 Mhz.
Wich can be sync(ed) to the horizontal or vertical sync pulse.

After that a mixer.
and a RGB encoder
I planned to use the SONY CXA1645.
