Of the ones I have built, I like the one from the TR-808 best. It also has
a nice sounding pink noise, although it is probably not very close to
theoretical pink noise.
The noise generator from the Formant is also good.

Not satisfactory results were with the noise source from the Matrix 6 and
SH09. Both of these from Marjans site.
Both of these produce noise allright, but the distribution is not gaussian.
So if you use it as a source for a sample and hold, the result will not be
what you expect.

All of the above use a transistor as a noise source. I used the 2sc828 in
the TR-808 circuit (as in the original). With the others, I had best
results with BC140 and BC141.
