[sdiy] UPD6376 Converter Upgrade?

Hi Folks,
    My old standby DR660 drum machine is sounding a bit "hazy" to me these
days.  I'm wondering if a better D/A converter would improve it.  NEC makes
a UPD63200GS that is an 18-bit pin-compatible part, but I don't know if it
would work as a drop in replacement to the UPD6376.  Any suggestions
(besides "get another drum machine!")?  Thanks.
