[sdiy] mis-soldered IC....

Be extremely careful when removing the chip. The 9700 has double sided
plated thru hole boards. If you do not completely suck the solder out, you may
end up pulling the copper barrel out of the hole. In general, it is best to
destroy the old chip and replace with a new one (I realize there is nothing
wrong with the backwards chip, yet, since you have not powered up, but, it is a
lot easier replacing the chip with a new one as opposed to replacing the PC
board). You will still need a solder sucker.
This is what I do. Use a pair of cutters to cut the body of the IC out.
Heat up each pin and pull out one at a time. Then use a solder sucker to clean
the holes out.
This is probably a good thing to do anyway...half the time when I unsolder
a chip from a board, the process ends up damaging the chip anyway.
But, of course...these are just my opinions.
