[sdiy] Repairing a Simmons SDE

I've got a broken Simmons SDE. I desperately want to fix it. It was cool
as hell when it worked.

Its been broken for at least 2 years. It started flaking out and loosing
patches, I suspected the battery so I replaced that... then it wouldnt turn
on unless I power cycled it a bunch. Then it completely gave out... lights
would blink in random ways and the display would show garbage. Now it wont
even turn on...

Any help here? Anyone have experience/tips/knowledge about the SDE? I'm
suspecting the power supply now, but I dont know what the correct voltages
are supposed to be. Also may be that the EEPROM has gone bad? Any way to
check this, and if its bad, how would I go about replacing it?

I really want to get this thing working again. They arent too expensive to
buy used, but kinda hard to find... I havent seen one since I bought mine
about 4 years ago.

Thanks, this is a wonderful list.

Christian Oncken.

RE: soldering... screw the landlord then. He dosent know what he's talking
about... if he gives me flack I'll take it to the health department... hows
that?
