[sdiy] Should have said this too...

It may be the truth... no butt kissing. I'd spin it differently.

I'm an independant consultant doing research for a client (shhh... you
are the client) on digital filtering techniques. The project is at the
conceptual /
proof of concept stage. You don't know at this time whteher the project
will
proceed to commercialization. Thank you for the samples, I will evaluate
them
and keep you informed of the progress.

The best way to reach me is via the e-mail address I provided. Your
website
insisted on a phone number, which I am unable to provide, sorry.

sincerely XXX

This is still "true". You are a consultant (to yourself) you need NOT
tell them the details of your project, and you don't know about
commercialization, though secretly you doubt it.

If you tell them the "hey I'm living at home" theres a 50/50 change you
have received your last samples. They are in the business of supporting
business..

I noted that the samples you asked for are easily available on the open
market
for relativley low cost. Its best to buy those (IMHO) and save the
sample route for the esoteric chips that you cannot otherwise obtain.
Save your fabors for then you really need them.

It is natural they will want to hook up with you... so its best to make
a company name.. even 'your name' consultants or 'your name' engineering
services.

It is absolutely TRUE that them sending you the samples will create a
warm spot
in your heart and that when you do buy, you will remember the folks who
helped you
out.

This is a little game... you should always be prepared before hand for
these questions. They are expected... they are the 'price' of the 'free'
samples.

MY company "Vader and Associates" was founded when I registered some
software... under this name... with my title as "Lord". They sold their
list to some
marketers, who send me lots of credit card offers, etc... to my company"
Likewise..
several large distributors have called me to find out if there is
anything they could do
to get more business from "Vader and Associates". Don't they even READ
what
they send ???
