BTW... I saw the three line smiley face... Is the equal sign buck teeth ?
At first I thought it was a squirrel (not that!)
Check Digi-Key for the Panasonic Mechanical Rotary encoder EVQ series.
You can decode the direction of rotation with a flipflop...
At $3.50 in onesies... the price is OK.
Digital pot ICs have some voltage restrictions so watch out. Otherwise its a
good
idea if you can stand (usually) 128 positions.
Encoders cannot be read out with a pointer on a dial... so you may need LED
readouts as well. Its a lot more circuitry.
My Theremin Quantizer (the Wiard MiniWave unit) has about 25% of the circuit
dedicated to numeric readout.
