Question about CS-80 legs

Question about CS-80 legs

2006-08-23 by Jeff Hashfield

Hi,

I just joined the group to browse your Files and Photos to try and answer a
question. I couldn't figure out the answer, so hopefully someone can help
me out.

I'm a fan of the Yamaha YC series combo organs, and have a set of legs
I acquired with a YC-20. The guy who sold me the organ thought the legs
were originally from one of the old Yamaha synths. They do fit the YC-20
perfectly, but I expect Yamaha could have been reusing the legs across their
products.

From the Links at your group, I found a picture of the CS-80 on its legs at
synthmuseum.com. They're not the same legs, but they're similar. Here's a
couple pictures of the YC-20 on its legs from combo-organ.com:

http://www.combo-organ.com/Yamaha/YC-20E.jpg
http://www.combo-organ.com/Yamaha/YC-20C.jpg

So, my question is: does anyone know which of the old Yamaha synths these
legs would fit?

Thanks in advance for any information.

Jeff

I don't have an CS at home anymore, but the legs in the picture look just like CS-60 legs, not CS-80. That makes sense since the YC-20 looks more the size and weight of the CS-60.

Thanks, David. I found a picture of the CS-60 here:
http://www.mike-andrews.com/online/gfx/mike-andrews.jpg , and, yes, those
do look like the legs.

I missplaced my legs some time ago...I think at one time it was used for
an audio console....been about ten years since Ive seen them but I have
a suspicion that I will stumble across them eventually....

Speaking of Legs. That just reminded me. If anyone wants to part with the
CS80 Roldex Top cover, let me know. Mine doesn't have the top. But I do
have legs. Its kinda nice. Too bad there are no wheels on the legs though.

CS-80 legs / alternatives

I do own the legs, but I find them too high to play the synth while
sitting on a chair (and far too low to play it while standing). So I
placed my CS80 on a small steel office-furniture-cabinet on wheels
(lxbxh = 80x40x60cm). Now I can reposition the synth without any effort
all on my own, and I can store a lot of stuff - service manual etc ;-)
inside the cabinet-drawers. I used some wooden spacers to make sure the
ventilation is not restricted. Since the CS80 hang's over in the front
a lot (the weight is at the back) there's enough space free for my own
legs.
Besides: the original legs are not friendly to the floor, there are
only 2 leveling-devices, the other 2 contact-areas are just some small
steel pins, not very nice and not good for your mariage...

No problems with ventilation and air circulation? I always wondered how on
earth they could stack CS80s onto CP70s or GS-1s etc. without getting into
trouble.

Re: [yamahacs80] CS-80 legs / alternatives

Remember that the tuning is more stable if it is warm inside the
unit...When I tune mine I cover the cards with a blanket and the keybed
with a quilt so it is warm with the lid open...when I close her up she
doesnt drift because of heat change...Live, I am on a high riser behind
our drummers riser...my CS80 sits on our drummers monitor blocking
75-100% of the bottom grill and a skirt hangs from the tolex "upper lid"
which I modified to place 2 otherkeyboards above theCS80 panel I-II (my
upper tolex lid is cut an inch past the slant over the length of the
keyboard so the part covering the keys ribbon and memory switches down
to the latches can be removed by pulling the hinge pins out of the
hinges I have along this incision..leaving yhe other half lid as a stand
for my VK7 and Quadrasynth)BTW alot of time I am playing right up in the
lights of the upstage truss or fairly close based on the trim
heighth....I did drill some vent holes in the upper tolex to allow some
extra ventilation but the opening is adaquate above the ribbon as the
heat rolls out there.....I have no tuning problems what so ever....even
on a windy stage where tuning is an issue with an exposed CS80....
