Stuck sounds from the CS80

Stuck sounds from the CS80

2015-02-08 by gearfire01@...

Hi everybody CS80 users,

I recently got a short during calibration on the KAS board, which blew one of the PSU fuse, and created a low resistance in the system, which i could quickly solve by identifying and changing the corresponding damaged IC.So everything should be set to normal right now, all resistances are in the correct range but when i power up the unit, a constant sound plays, kinda detuned one.I can play notes on top of that sound, even though the notes played are not in tune neither, and somewhat hazardous depending on the preset used.Eveything else (tremolo, chorus, ring modulator, filters...) seem to work, but memory/user presets which produce no sound.

I suspected the fuses again, since this is close to what happened to one user recently here (and his fuses were off finally) but here, they are all ok.

Any suggestions to help focus my searches?

Thanks

lower part out of tune

2015-02-11 by Fredrik Segerfalk

A friends CS80 just went out of tune on the lower part only. All voices jump up and down more cents than is pleasing to the ear, but still within a semitone. Upper part is stable and nice. My friend said he smelled somthing burnt, but I haven't been able to check anything personally yet.

Any ideas what could be the cause of this? SH-board sends same voltages to all M-boards, but is there anything in between there that could go astray?

Thanks,

There is nothing between the SH and M but a wire. Output K1 of SH board is bound to the K input of M11 and an other wire goes from there to the K input of M21. So most certainly, the issue does not follow this path. Try and check the V input of the M boards, the one where the vibrato arrives.

Does the pitch variation really concern all boards (M21 to M28)? If so, could it be a damaged "Detune ch2" slider?

i just had EXACTLY the same problem after a blown fuse due to a bad diode ... by the time i got the PS fixed up I have a constant stuck note with a little LFO on it -frequency is controlled by the LFO slider ... most other panel controls seem to be working too ... I found THIS page on Old Crow's site and it sounded exactly like theĀ  problem - so i tried changing out the chips on my SH board and STILL the same effect ...

one thing i DO notice however is that the 4016 chip is 'full on' ... each pin is at max. voltage - 15v through the Vcc pin and 8.6v through everything else ... so i guess that explains the stuck notes ... but I'm a bit a bit of a loss to explain WHY this is ...

ANYONE?
