EX-42 spotted on eBay

EX-42 spotted on eBay

2005-09-30 by David Rogoff

Hi all.

Pretty quiet around here lately. I know I've been swamped with the
mundanities of life. However, on a more fun, and CS80-related note, I
just saw this on eBay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7353775214

It's an EX-42, less than an hour from my house! Any thoughts on this?
It's listed as untested/As-Is because the owner doesn't have the
matching speakers. Aren't there line outs on this? I remember
reading that the GX-1 didn't have line outs and needed modification to
run to a mixer/amp (like many organs, including Hammonds). It would
be nice if I could check it out in person before the auction ends and
could test it somehow.

Anyway, please speak up if you know about these. How does it compare
to the EX-1/2? How fixable is it (custom chips, availability of
service manual, etc). How's it sound? Anyone else looking to pick it up?

David

Hmmm, that's fun to see that! I would be tempted too, if I only lived an
hour away. Since you are so close, will the owner let you go see it first?

On another CS-80 related note, did you see the CS-80 on ebay last week?
Looked like it was in good shape. Only lasted one day before someone
snapped it up with the "Buy it Now" option.

The big one! - was Re: EX-42 spotted on eBay

Well, here's the king:

This one came up here a few months ago, but now the owner decided to put it on eBay. I
guess at the price he's asking, shipping a half-ton crate from Australia doesn't add much.

Start your bidding!

Hey David,

Ha! This thing is 5 minutes from me. I think my wife would freak out
(and she doesn't really freak out) if I even thought about it.

If you're interested in having me take a look to save the drive, we
could always ask the seller if I could pop by -- I could probably drop
by Monday after work (auction closes at 7:50PM PST Monday). I doubt
it's connected in any way we could give it a listen and I don't think
the cosmetic condition would tell you much about this beast. Do you
happen to know if it has a headphone out (doubtful, methinks)? In the
off chance that it does, I could give it a quick workout.

From a parts perspective, is this useful for CS-80 owners? Are you
going to try to stuff this in your Saturn? ;)

Not to mention the stairs to your studio.

I think I'll pass. I just picked up a Roland A-50 (poly aftertouch!) this morning on eBay.
Anyone interested in my Kurzweil MIDIBoard? I picked it up a few months ago to use with
Arturia CS80V. Works great (poly aftertouch, again), but I wanted something more
portable. Make me a reasonable offer, otherwise I'll put it on eBay in a week, or so.
Pickup (in Irvine, CA) preferred.

No - this would be a job for my Mini Cooper!
