Yamaha CS60 with midi for Sale (or parts)

2012-05-23 by Jared Tauben

Hi everyone, I'm reluctantly selling my beautiful CS60.
The synth is in amazing condition. 9/10 cosmetically.
Only the top cover tolex i'd rate 7/10. It has a few rips here and there.
Functionally, the synth is 100%. Recently serviced by my very qualified tech Ramcur. Check him out. He's the best!
This one has the Kenton Midi Kit installed.
Comes complete with legs and carrying case.

I'M WILLING TO SELL THIS SYNTH OFF FOR PARTS

if anyone on this forum needs something to get their synth working perfectly and looking complete.

that includes:

voice boards, fader caps, ribbon controller, PRA board, SUB board, legs, carrying case, IC's, power supply, handles, top cover, Kenton midi kit, etc....

Just send me a message if you'd like to see pictures or for pricing.

Thanks for looking!

What are you asking for the whole synth and where are you?

I'm located between Stowe, Vermont and Montreal, Quebec.
For the synth complete, i'm looking for something around $4500.
Thanks,
Jared

Holy smokes--that's what I paid for my CS80!

Honestly guys, with the economy being what it is, it's a buyer's market out there and I really don't see synths selling for top dollar the way they did a few years ago. But God knows I've been wrong about these things before... ;)

I've passed on a couple of perfect CS50s in recent weeks selling for $1500-$1700, and I can't see how a CS60 would be worth three times as much, but that's just my (relatively uninformed) opinion.

Ultimately, I suppose your synth is worth whatever some frivolous "one percenter" is willing to pay for it. But It's not a rare synth by a long shot, and if 'Completed Listings' searches on eBay are any indication, nobody is paying inflated top-dollar asking prices for relatively common poly synths at the moment. (See the absurd number of $4000 Rev 3 Prophet 5s on eBay right now.)

That said, I'm not saying your asking price is unethical, Jared--the midi kit and recent service definitely add value, and I'm sure if you're patient you'll find a taker.

Indeed, it seems vintage synths--and vintage instruments in general--are only affordable to collectors now.

Oh well, at least struggling musicians still have access to virtual synths and cheap midi controllers! ;)

Honestly, there is a value in "Parts" from a CS-60 to revive a CS-80.
However, I believe that any synth that is utilized as parts for another,
should in itself be either non-working or too many repair issues. Having
worked, played and repaired both, it really depends on which instrument you
want to survive (CS-80 of course). That is the unfortunate issue with
designs that are old, have obsolete parts etc.

In closing, a fully working Minty CS-60 should remain as such, but one that
is somewhat broken may give life to the Mothership :) I guess my main
issue/grunt with this thread is only that the latest member of this group
only joined to sell or destroy a wonderful instrument without heart.

Yes it does seem a shame to part out a nice, working CS60 that was recently resored and with MIDI installed...

I still have some parts left over from a CS50 and CS60 that were in bad shape and would have required lots of time and money to get fully working. I actually recently sold a complete CS60 for $2500 that was maybe 80% functional rather than parting it so it might survive as whole...

Re: Yamaha CS60 with midi for Sale (or parts)

2012-06-06 by timmybass69

FWIW - I purchased some parts from Jared to help my refurb project. I purchased a CS60 not too long ago on eBay sold as "For Parts or not working". Hahaha. Well, when it got here it was in much worse condition than the seller had let on. I decided I would restore it no matter what it took. I have already spent a lot of money on parts from US, England, Netherlands, Japan, China, Hong Kong, and Canada in the 2 months since purchasing it. I have even had to fabricate my own replacement parts for the aftertouch bar under the keyboard. Silly, I know.

But you know what? It's making sound now. :) Sure it needs to be tuned and calibrated but its going to survive thanks to Jared making some parts available.

So, don't be too hard on Jared guys and gals. Sometimes in passing other things are resurrected.

(I only wish I had video'd the part when I was blowing the 1 cm thick dust/dirt from the interior of my CS60. I couldn't even recognize what cards were in the machine! It must have been in storage in the desert for decades. The dust clouds filled the street like a dense fog as I blew it out with my compressor. Truly hilarious - no lie!)

Good job! It took me about a year to get all the parts to get my old
CS80 all fixed up. Let us know how the rest of the work goes.
