Audionizzerd (LA) no hoax serial# 1246

2005-07-14 by h0merxxx

Hey folks
I wanna let you know that I won this auction and shipped the CS-80 to
Germany.
I can tell you this was really a story.
The CS 80 panel looks really good also the molex but the black cover
has some tears and wears.
The voiceboards have the temp. upgrade from service bullitin (diode
over VCO with silicon grease).
As far as I can tell the cs-80 works.
Besides the fact that when I switch on chorus there is some kind of
overdrive in the sound, even the vco levels are not at maximum.

I'm not sure how I can post some photos about the transport?

P.S. Audionizzerd aka Leor Dimant aka DJ Lethal (Limp Bizkit)

Great - welcome to the club!

Please tell us. I'd like to know the details of packing and shipping
a CS-80, especially from L.A.!

You should be able to upload them to the Photo page. Just create an
album and put the pics in there.

Hey,

Shipping a Cs80 isnt really a big deal.
I shipped my second Cs80 from the USA to the UK, no problems. The thing is, it needs to be crated. I had mine enclosed in a wood box and attached to a pallet.
It wasnt that expensive either, i think it cost $400 to ship it.
(I paid $2100 for my Cs80 on Ebay)

It arrived perfectly.
I wouldnt recommend shipping a Cs80 in just its own tolex flightcase though.

Lets face it, i know the Cs80 gets a hard time with regards to reliability, but if your buying a used Cs80, chances are that it hasnt been serviced in a while as they are just to bloody heavy to move LOL.
If you buy an Cs80, youll need to realistically think that when it arrives youll need to have it serviced or calibrated at the very least.

I keep meaning to get mine restored, i plan to use the LSC (Kent Spong) but i just dont have £850 lying around for that at the moment LOL!
The guy does a really job on the Cs80s.
Its crazy really, i bought my 80 well over a year ago, bought a brand new Kenton midi kit, and have never, ever, since ive had it, even powered it up....
Crazy, i know....

The thing is its running on 110V and were running on 240V in the UK, so i just figured, why risk running it through a stepdown transformer when it could damage the synth.
Im thinking i might as well just have it restored and switch the PSU over to 240V, get the midi kit fitted and go from there.
The thing is like i say, ive had my 80 for well over a year now!
Maybe its time to sell off some gear to fund the restoration!

Its depressing really as the Cs80 is my favourite synth and im dying to use it, but just dont have the cash right at the moment to get it restored!
I actually moved it out of the studio, in an attempt to speed up getting it fixed, but alas, it has been sitting on my landing now in full flightcase against the wall for months!

I also depressingly need to get my Prophet T8, Rev 2 Prophet 5 and Synthex restored as well..... : (
Im really hoping i can get them all fixed up and functional by the end of the year, so that i can *just* get on with making music LOL!

Anyway, im rambling now, well done to the guy that has just bought the Cs80, i pronounce you man and synth, to be joined to together in musical mayhem as long as you both shall live : )

Regards,
Rob.

Hi Rob,

I can say from living in the UK as a musician for over 5 years back in the early '90s, that it's no problem getting a music shop service technician to supply you with a transformer that will allow you to power up the 110 monster on 220 current. I brought over an emulator EII, minimoog, Kawai K5, and a keyboard amp head from the States and played it through a custom made transformer that had eight inputs and I used only half of those inputs, without the keyboards or amp suffering any ill effects.
At least the transformer will be a quick fix until you have enough dosh for the restoration...Just a thought, mate, since we can understand how much you love the synth we love so much!

Cheers,

Tommy

Hello David

I upload some pictures from the transport and the CS80 ;-)
I hope there are not to large.

The problem with the transport was:
- audionizzerd is a really a busy guy and to get in contact with him
wasn'nt quite easy.
- Arrange the pickup in the US from Germany
- After successfull pickup the US shipper needed some special dox and
social securtiy number of audionizzerd because of the value of the
good.
- Then they checked the packaging of the cs-80 ,audionizzerd but I
only in a lot of bubble wrap, but that is not ok concerning air
transportation rules, so the shipper has to build an extra box for
$280 So the ATA was accomplished.
- In Germany put the CS-80 upstairs to the second floor together with
my girlfriend ;-)

Thanks for the info and the pictures! Just to get a summary: you
wrote how much the crate cost, but how much was the shipping? What
shipper did you use?

Enjoy playing!

David
