hey everyone- i have not turned my instrument on since about 1998 and was wondering if the sudden power might hurt it (capacitors and such) can it be brought up slow with a variac as some do with audio gear? -i'm not a technician so excuse my ignorance please. thanks for any guidance, robert

Hi Robert, Personally I would rebuild the PSU - with new caps and IC's. And then I would set the voltages with the PSU seperate from the rest of the synth. Then I would power her up and see what happens. Cheers, TOM --- In yamahacs80@yahoogroups.com, "robert" <rbhall7ice@...> wrote:

Don't forget: if you power up the PS disconnected from the synth, you need to jumper the 2 sense inputs (+8.5v and -6.5v I think) to their respective outputs or things will be bad! And, since the PS is linear (not switching) you could bring it up on a variac after you replace the caps and stuff. Hi Robert, thanks for the kind words... Make sure it isn't just the fuses blown on the supply. It happens a lot. I hope all is well! JL ________________________________

Watch these videos from Gavin Curtis. Very instructive about rebuilding the PSU. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGO7hFbnmIo&feature=youtube_gdata_player http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Up-KQHc4LNQ&feature=youtube_gdata_player Doug --- In yamahacs80@yahoogroups.com, David Rogoff <david@...> wrote:

I've done a few CS80 housecalls in SoCal from Palm Springs to Santa Monica. In in Irvine. I have little free time these days but might be able to do a tuning. Where are you?
