CS80 in music videos

CS80 in music videos

2011-04-27 by David

Hi all.

As the CS80 population of my house goes from 2 to 1 to 0 this week (and Polymoogs from 3 to 1 - soon 0), I happened across this Jethro Tull video with Eddie Jobson and his CS80. Tell me where to get the cool lucite stand!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vUDHG0VMV3E

I also remember this old J Giels video from early MTV days:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wHo43B6nu60

It's actually a pretty good example of using the CS80 for a Hammond sound. Their "Centerfold" hit was also lots of CS80 although it looks like another keyboard he's pretending to play in the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BqDjMZKf-wg
And finally, lots of CS80 audio and video - including a ribbon slide at the end - on "Love Stinks" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0LAs7X5ybE

Any other places the Yamaha made it onto mainstream video?

David

There was one clip by ELO where the keyboard player is manning not only a CP70 and a Polymoog, but also a CS80.

Not to forget some Toto stuff ("Rosanna", I think), and of course Nina Hagen Band with Reinhold Heil playing the CS (there´s some "Rockpalast" footage... a punk band using a CS80?! That is pathetic...).

Stephen

Took a bit of searching:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3v6MBHpzZg8

The CS80 is featured at about 2:30. It's definitely CS80 we're hearing too. However, all the Polymoog "Clavinet" in the song sounds like a real Clav, not the preset on the Poly!

Of course: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gq4ychrRkQA !
Ironically, the "Rosanna" video features some unknown actress/model, while the real (and, IMHO perfect) Rosanna Arquette appears as Jenny in the video for Toy Matinee's "Ballad Of Jenny Ledge" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRGMEIX1a5Y
I don't think that tune used CS80, but Kevin Gilbert was a pop/prog genius who I would bet used one at some point.

and of course Nina Hagen Band with Reinhold Heil playing the CS (there´s some "Rockpalast" footage... a punk band using a CS80?! That is pathetic...).

Not familiar with them. I'll have to check it out.

Sorry to decrease your CS80 and Polymoog population : ) I'm sure a few more will make there way to you for resuscitation!

Here's the classic stand again. Not my fav CS80 sound on this one. How about some modulation Eddie?? This IS though one of my all time favorite live drum performances. Mark Craney was a beast on the kit. I remembering learning ALL those cool licks when I first saw this video on MTV on the early 80's.

Here is a very rare 1979 HD clip of UK live from a 35mm film with Bozio on
drums and no Holdsworth ..
