Ciao Fernando!

Please forgive me being cheeky but is this the CS80 that was sold on eBay
Italy recently?

Cari saluti,

Stephen.

are really worth our gratefulness and appreciation.

Welcome new (and returning) members!

2011-02-13 by David

Hi all.

We've had a mini membership surge from my posting an the AH mailing list. Welcome all!

Please introduce yourselves and let us know why you're here. The group has been talking about lots of different things lately from debugging ill CS80s to folks with albums of their own music featuring the CS80 (and it's relatives).

Please check out the old messages and files and links (probably way out of date). Now I need to go work on fixing up the CS80 sitting in my dining room that I've been too busy to work on lately. Its owner has been most patient, but I'd like to get it back to him soon.

If I could only do CS80 repairs and restorations for a living! Unfortunately, I think the CS80 world can only support one person and Kent's already claimed it :)

RE: Welcome new (and returning) members!

2011-02-13 by Leslie Schwartz

Hello,

I probably also saw the AH post and I did not know before then that this
group existed.

I have a CS-60 which needs some repairs, but works. And it's one of the many
projects I hope to get to someday.

I wanted to join this group because I felt that it may help me diagnose and
repair problems with the CS-60.

As one previous message stated, there is someone parting out what he said
was a perfectly functioning CS-60 on eBay, which is sad to see happen, but
if the parts go to people who genuinely need them with no other parts source
available, there is some good in that.

So for my sake if some diagnoses are given do not feel that you cannot go
into the background that may have been given before, for some of us it may
be new information and will be appreciated. And this goes as well for the
operation of the system.

I reside in Plano, TX. and I have a bunch of other synths and many are old
school analog types, some of which need some attention, but probably the
CS-60 needs the most attention.

Thanks for this group and for all the knowledge you have to share.

Leslie

Hello all,
I have been a AH member since 1995 (now I am 52...), owner of a collection of analogue synths (Moog modulars,, Roland sys 700, EMSs, Korg PS3200, Elka Synthex, and many others). My job does not leave too much free time to me (I am a professor in Dentistry at the university of Napoli - Italy), but this is a great passion and when I bought a nice CS 80 from my friend Tommaso Rivieccio I immediately fell in love with such a wonderful synth. Unfortunately, the yahoo account becomes full in a brief time, so post can bounce back and list cancel members as it should...
This is a great list. No timewasters, all of the previous messages are a precious source of information.

Fernando from Italy

BTW next week I am going to Chicago, any CS80 for sale there? :-)

[yamahacs80] UPDATE!!! CS80 voice problem

2011-02-13 by Fernando Zarone

Now the situation is worse (did I make a mistake or didn't I noticed it before?):

All of the last 5 presets of CH II : harpsichord 2, 0rgan 2 up to funky 4 have a Looooooong sustain, I guess the maximum amount. memory 2 and 4 and panel work.

Re: [yamahacs80] UPDATE!!! CS80 voice problem

2011-02-16 by Fernando Zarone

I wanted to update the CS-80 problem saga:

After carefully checking hundreds of connections, I took the TRIG1 board out of the rack.
There are some repair signs made by the previous owners: some of the ICs are socketed (mono in line), some soldering ponts were faulty.

Now the sustain problem has been solved, the only fault remaining is the M21 voice that keeps on not working only in the first 11 panel buttons on CH II, while Memory 2 /4 / Panel work fine on all of the 8 voices.
My question: could this problem be related to the same TRIG 1 (or other) board(s)?

David now I bless you for the precious service manual that I bought some years ago from you!!!

Fernando

Re: UPDATE 2! CS80 voice problem

2011-02-16 by papinje

I WAS WRONG. TRIG 1 was not involved in the problem, in that after moving some wires the long sustain was back.
Kent, you were right (I never had any doubt) : I resoldered all of the terminals of the wires in R52 and ... long sustain is fixed.
Thanks to all of you who are helping me solve this problem.
Now the only flaw is the M21 voice that does not work in the first 11 patches of CHII .
Where to check? I resoldered all of the wire connections at the M21 board, no result.

Thank you!
Fernando

I WAS WRONG. TRIG 1 was not involved in the problem, in that after moving
some wires the long sustain was back.
Kent, you were right (I never had any doubt) : I resoldered all of the
terminals of the wires in R52 and ... long sustain is fixed.
Thanks to all of you who are helping me solve this problem.
Now the only flaw is the M21 voice that does not work in the first 11
patches of CHII .
Where to check? I resoldered all of the wire connections at the M21 board,
no result.

Thank you!
Fernando
