CS80 voice problem

CS80 voice problem

2011-02-12 by Fernando Zarone

Hello all.
After switching the machine on, here is the problem:
MIX I : everything works fine. I move the "channel" selector down to Mix II
MIX II: panel and memory do work as well. Only the Preset buttons show the following fault:
when I play the first note it does not work (sometimes it seems to fire a note, but at a very low level... ), the following 6 in a row do work. then the following does not work, and so on. 1 yes 6 no.
Moreover, when I keep the first (faulty) key down, and play another key in a repeated sequential way, all of the notes are normally heard.
I tried to move and check the boards' cables, no clue. The fact that all of the voices work when panel or memory 2-4 are switched on means that the voice board of the first note (21)
is not faulty. Do I have to check at T54 or BA?
Please help me!
Ciao
Fernando from Italy

Hi Fernando.

It certainly seems like a problem with the first voice card for channel
II (M21). It's weird that it's OK from panel and not presets. Here's a
couple of ideas to narrow it down:
On the panel, turn off VCF level and put Sine level at maximum. Verify
all voices work ok.
Now turn down Sine and turn up VCF. Turn on pulse wave but turn off
sawtooth. Verify all voices.
Finally, turn off pulse and turn on sawtooth and repeat.
Let us know if that shows anything interesting.

David

Not only are all of the voices in the "panel" position working, but also in both the "memory 2 and 4" positions! Just in the fixed PRESET ones MIX II...
I have tested the way you indicated to me: all of the voices work, in PANEL position, both only sine (no VCF) and pulse and sawtooth.
I have also checked the wire connections between BA and T54 , and between T54 and M21. All are ok.
Mistery.

Hi Fernando
If you introduce noise, does voice#1 work?

With the PANEL switch on, if I introduce noise, it works as well. Only in the fixed PRESET button positions the first voice doesn't...

Re: [yamahacs80] CS80 voice problem

2011-02-13 by Fernando Zarone

I am getting crazy.
Summary:
Voice n.1 (board 21) has a problem. This should be not in the board itself, because it doesn't play ONLY when one of the CHII PRESETS (from Strings to Funky) are selected! When in MEMORY or PANEL it works. So, the problem should be somewhere interrupting the flow to M21 but from a common origin, common to all of the presets...

Any further idea?
