CS80 on eBay

2005-05-03 by dscr22

Concord California.
Based on the last year or so, and the pictures and accessories,
it's priced competitively. Seller doesn't appear to have a
particularly good command of English sentence construction and
a couple negative feedbacks, so you'd really have to be local IMO.
(No offense intended to non-native English speakers).

In truth, if I had that machine legit, I wouldn't put a $3500 "BIN"
on it. He's near a population center, who knows if you're leaving
some $$$ on the table? Last one wasn't nearly as nice by appearances
and sold for $3658.

Not sure if that's a "good" or "bad" S/N. Isn't there a cutoff
somewhere around 1000+?

To me all these sellers seem a bit fishy... Christophe Harbonnier of
Lightwave sold his PS3300 through eBay last week, and the other the same
PS3300 picture shows up in an auction somewhere across the Big Pond. Seems
suspicious. Resist! Don´t buy unless you can collect the unit yourself (but
be sure you not only bring money but also a bunch of 81 rockers with you in
that case...).

Re: [yamahacs80] CS80 on eBay

2005-05-04 by james devero

Its actually not that unreasonably priced at $3500....
I'm thinking about it...The shipping to Chicago can be as low as $500-
but more likely $700-$900.
If I were to dump some gear..it might make sense...However, I am going
to use the CS-80V with the Novation Xstation61 ( ordered and available in
mid June)...
Funny because I would have bought this 4 weeks ago...I just don't know
now...Chasing that polyphonic aftertouch to some levels is one thing...
but knowing no one can probably fix it or tune it...while I'm also not Hans Zimmer.
We will see.....I have the money to buy it...wierd ...
I suppose I need some convincing from you guys out there.

Regards, JD

Buy it, you would be mad not to, get it, get it tuned and midied and wow, you have the most amazing synth ever made.

Yes, you´re right, Rob! I would love to find a tech in Germany who has the
guts to tweak a CS80... but I won´t toss it down two flights of stairs in
the near future, I´m satisfied with my back-ache that I already have...

Re: CS80 on eBay

All good advice. That repeated auction thing is a very common
scam. Don't be tempted to contact those people because some
can be very sophisticated in the ways they suck you in.

This current guy does have a reasonable feedback profile built
up so he *probably* legitimately has a CS80 there. And, as noted,
a $3500 BIN can be a decent deal when nice examples of these
things can touch $4k.

But I must stress, that is WAAAY too much money to just send off
to a guy and hope a gigantic beast survives the shipping and all
is like he claimed. Unless you have the time to road trip it
out to CA I'd steer clear and wait until one shows up in this
half of the country.

Speaking of which, dude it's too bad you missed the one that was
IN Chicago last November. It was mint, original owner, all
original documentation and accessories, sold for $3575. I know
because it now sits in my basement.

Hi,

Does anyone still have the UK CS80 auction in cache? I was going to
email the seller to ask a question, but the auction is gone now. I'd
appreciate it if someone has the seller's ID.

Thanks,

David

7319968371 should be the one.

The UK one pops up from time to time, copied direct from
an auction that I assume was legit out of Vancouver a couple
years back. The original auction went for $4k+. I'm encouraged
if eBay yanked it that quickly because I mailed them about mine
popping up fraudulently right after the real auction closed, and
it sat there for days. But perhaps he got the right sucker to
the Western Union office already.

Yeah, and why is the stand back-to-front .... ?
Strange.

I always thought the stand went that way. On the CS-80s and CS-60 I had
that had the stands, that's how I set it up. It was only a few weeks
ago that I saw the picture on the cover of the manual and realized that
it's supposed to go the other way. I don't care - I think it looks
better with the round part in front!

The Old Crow-Hello
Are you located in Chicago?
Really....that would make a huge difference in my decision.
Kind regards, J D

The idea is that one person can set it up if you put the
round parts to the back. Wheel it into position, hook up
the legs while it's still sideways on the wheels, and just
kind of roll it upright on the round parts of the back/bottom
of the legs.

Although it's noted that in fact nowadays you're strongly
advised against moving it around on the caster wheels.
