Desoldering Double Sided Question...!?

Desoldering Double Sided Question...!?

2009-02-16 by Quazimodo

Hi guys,

Wonder if amyone here could give me a bit of avsice. I am trying to
desolder a 14pin IC from a double sided board.

It's not easy - what is the scret?

I have a spring loaded solder-sucker and can get the solder from the
'usual' side, but the thing is still solid.

How does one 'suck solder' from 'under' the chip...??

Cheers,
Tom

using a hakko 808 desoldering gun, you can just wiggle each leg slightly
once the solder is liquified. its so easy. do an entire 16 pin double sided IC in about
15-20 seconds, and you visibly see that the points are clean. i know buying another 3-400 dollar part might seem silly/superfluous, but i would honestly rather dump a synth before dumping that thing. SO useful.-rj

Tom,

For most double-side PCBs, this shouldn't be a problem with a
solder-sucker. A somewhat counter-intuitive trick is to first add more
solder to the pin/pad. Then heat it up well can remove the solder.
Sometimes it may still stick a little. If you're not trying to save the
chip, just cut the leads off and pull them out with pliers as you apply
a little heat. If it's a power pin and there's a huge power plane on
the board it can be a pain since all the copper will suck the heat away.
