Hi
Have a listen to this track, named "GX-1 solo" for a cause. Apparently this group looks like the new nick of Aphex Twin

Aphex Twin SAW2 -Selected Ambient Works 2 is by far the best ever
record made with the Yamaha CS50/60/80 family
Makes any other record eg ENO Jobson etc one dimensional in
comparsion--nothing comes close

But its true up until now Aphex Twin has had no mention in this list--
SAW2 is the greatest record ever made with the Yamaha CS and nobody on
this list
ever mentions it or knows about it.?
Alex Paterson from the ORB is not surprised either and says his time
is about 20 years from now when people will start to discover his
records

Aphex Twin is an electronic music superstar--for what that's worth--and to suggest that nobody's heard his records or that he's underappreciated is a bit of a stretch. That said, I had never heard his Ambient collections until they were mentioned on this list and it's probably thanks to the "better than Eno" hyperbole that I bothered--so thank you! It's good stuff. Better than Eno? Apples and oranges--or at the very least, granny smith and honey crisp. Eno had a stronger or more distinctive melodic sensibility for sure. And I prefer the longer loops he used to Aphex's decidedly 90's short loops. And yes, I prefer the characteristic warmth of the 70s to the coldness of the 90s. But there's no denying Aphex has made some quality stuff and thankfully, there's room on my record shelf for both ;)

Hi Ted
Interesting facts about Richard D James --he was the first artist from
that genre to use a CS-80 (now owns a GX-1--check out the Tuss)

Greetings!

I am new to this group. I do not have a CS-80 (only the Arturia
software version), but have loved this keyboard for years!

I have several Eno CDs, but none of his Ambient works. Which one
would have the most CS-80 on it? Please advise, and I will send
Amazon.com an order.

Thanks!

Tom

Hi Tom, welcome aboard!
Ambient 1 (Music For Airports) is one of them, although I'm not too much into Ambient music; of course expect no bombastic CS-80 sounds but, rather, some whispered soft pads.

Hi, Max!

Thanks for that - I have heard most of Eno's stuff over the years,
but didn't even know what a CS-80 was back then (I am a guitarist-
turned-keyboardist). I enjoy ambient/soundtrack music - I will get
that one.

            Hi Tom, welcome aboard!

Ambient 1 (Music For Airports) is one of them, although I'm not too much into Ambient music; of course expect no bombastic CS-80 sounds but, rather, some whispered soft pads.

Greetings!

I am new to this group. I do not have a CS-80 (only the Arturia

software version), but have loved this keyboard for years!

I have several Eno CDs, but none of his Ambient works. Which one

would have the most CS-80 on it? Please advise, and I will send

  Amazon.com an order.

Thanks!

Tom

Tom,

And for something completely different, "Before and After Science"
would be another good one to check out. CS-80 is not on every track, but
is recognizable in a few places. (it's also just a great Eno album...
regardless of CS-80).

Wasn't it Eno who's been quoted as saying something to the effect of the
CS-80 having many sounds but just a few great ones (very loosely
paraphrased)?

More music: CS-80 and Memorymoog!

2009-02-03 by Fredrik Segerfalk

Fellow list members,

Had a friend over in the studio last weekend, and we recorded this
little ambient live-jam, called "Neorufsig".

Me on the Memorymoog, and my friend playing the CS-80 with some delay
slapped on. We were in different rooms, but I feel that the musical
communication worked quite well just by listening to each other. My
friend, who is quite new to synthesizers, but a talented musician,
played the CS-80 for the first time in his life :)

No edits, just from start to end in one 45 minute take with loads of
twiddeling the sliders and knobs. I hope you enjoy it :)

No, it says CP70m (the electric grand), not CS70m. The CS70 is a CS70m,
as there are no other models :)

Thanks, Tim - I have that one. Haven't heard it in a long time -
think I'll play it tonight.

Tom

I could recognize that ring modulator sound everywhere, no doubt, Laurie ;-)

Fredrik,

I just wanted to pass along a note of thanks to tell you how much I
enjoyed hearing your "Neorufsig" jam recording. Due to the length of it,
I wasn't able to give it an adequate listen earlier in the busy week...
but now that it's the week end and I have a little more time to spend, I
find it to be very compelling. Nice sounds, and there are some very
beautiful moments. There is some real expressiveness, and dynamics, and
it's a testament to the performance playability of our fave synths here
that your friend was playing one for the very first time. You two were
well in sync and this was very nice indeed. Cheers!

Tim! Thanks for the kind words! I truly appreciate your comments,
especially coming from a skilled musician as yourself, and I promise to
be back with more in a not too distant future. We are, after all, living
in the future of many science fiction writers, and in ten years we will
see how close we've gotten to Blade Runner :) I have a CS-60 too, and it
would be interesting to a jam with that baby too!

Fredrik,

I also very much enjoyed listening to your "jam". Great musicianship
and great sounds = a totally enjoyable experience!
