Added New CS80 YouTube Video

2009-01-12 by galaxiesmerge

Hi,

I added a new video - having listened to it, I had too much reverb and
the dynamics are so wide that I burnt the camera inputs. I will
eventually redo these ... next time I will go through a compressor
(soft of course). I cannot put a line-input into my video camera so I
will see if I can get a webcam and feed the computer directly.

LINK: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIPh96WkcSA

There are three pieces in here:

The first is an arpeggio sequence where I control the tone with
pressure and velocity and the expression pedal. The second is a brass
patch which I played terribly and fumbled a bit, but chose to leave it
as is for now. The last piece is really using the Funk preset and some
extreme settings and extreme play in the way I am pressing the keys to
get as wide a sweep as possible.

I'm planning to do a sound-effects video next to show how ambiances
and effects of various kinds can be done and I'm also going to show
some tips and tricks with outboard processors and gear for playable
effects textures.

Any reactions are welcome.

Thanks!

Thanks for the vid.......

I fully agree about the verb

Any time excess reverb gets thrown on a synth it really levels out
the playing field....IMO

making a CS80 sound more like Todays over FXed synths ie (korg
radias)

I can tell the difference is obvious with the polyAT functions but
to people with no CS background, the verb could make it sound
similar to cheaper synths...

Thanks for posting

Great video!
Some ideas for the next one: differences between Sustain 1 and 2, velocity (the famous "peak" velocity waveform with percussive attacks), keyboard tracking, Wah Wah..these are unique features!
Thanks again!

That really shows nicely how much can be done with the Aftertouch,
especially for those who don't already have one of these regal synths.
It's hard to appreciate the performance nuances possible until you try
it yourself. (Agreed, maybe a bit heavy on the 'verb, but I didn't find
it too bothersome...) Sound quality came across very well!

Looking forward to your next installment! Keep up the nice work.

Thanks so much for these suggestions :) I am collecting them and will
work them into the next one as suggested! I really appreciate these as
I tend to forget stuff!

filter shaping across keyboard

2009-01-15 by Ernest Meyer

HI Max

I dug up my design work for keyboard tracking, and it does not need a voice
assigner, I can do it with a few control shapers. It would only be a hour or
two, but I don't know whether you want me to proceed with making it, or
waiting until we find someone in California with a CS-80. I didn't want to
duplicate your search, and maybe it would be better in fact if you asked on
Yahoo groups because they already know you as a positive contributor there,
whereas I have just been observing from the side. Let me know?

All the best

Ernest

Instructional video anybody ?

2009-01-15 by slipperysoles

While you are putting up new CS80 videos on youtube, I was wondering
if you - or someone else - would be interested in setting up a "how
to" maintenance video. How do you open a CS80, how do you tune the
voice cards, what tools and instruments are needed, etc.

I am fairly new to the CS80 and more of a musician than a technician,
but I understand that some sort of technical skills are needed in
order to maintain a CS80.

Let me know if others would be interested, too.

Cheers
Worsel

HI Max

I guess from the silence you are wanting to wait until I find a CS80 user. I
have been working on some new voice assignment algorithms in preparation for
a movement to MAX/MSP, and not able to follow up until now, but I am
thinking I should post to the CS80 mailing list tomorrow.
