CS-80 on eBay?

CS-80 on eBay?

2005-02-02 by wotan645

Hello, I'm new here. There is a CS-80 listed on eBay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?
ViewItem&category=38071&item=3780179721&rd=1

It was listed for 7 days with a starting bid of $3000. It was not
bought. It has been relisted. Does anyone know anything about the
seller? I'm a bit skeptical. The pictures seem similar to another
auction last year that seemed shakey. Thanks.

Man, $3,658, and not the greatest example you'll find.

Mine was $3,575 but mint, and a later example with real
stable tuning.

The funny thing is, that auction was just up right before
this with a $3,000 minimum, and no one bid!!! Then they
go WAAAY over that in a NR relist with $1,000 starting.

Best of luck to the winner...

Speaking as one who works on CS machines frequently, $3650 is too much.
There are too many parts that need to be overhauled in a stock CS-80 for
any price over $3K to really be match value. There are exceptions, of
course, but unless I personally inspected the machine I would be hard
pressed to offer much more than $2K not knowing just for sure what I'd be
getting in return. A complete overhaul can cost between $500 and $1K
depending on what needs fixed. At minimum I would replace power supply
filter capacitors and swap out all of the old 4xxx-series chips, socketing
the new ones. If mechanical parts need repair, those usually have to be
custom-made unless spares are available. Even then, the spares are
usually as old as the original parts.

I hope that $3650 machine works for the buyer. Heck, I hope he actually
gets the transaction completed--eBay seems to be a bit more risky these
days.

Talking about going / asking prices and the discrepancy between these, has
anybody seen the ad in Future Music recently? Asking price for a CS80 in
decent cosmetic shape was 4,000 Pounds... roughly 6,000 Euros or some 7,200
US$. Now that´s what I call impressive. You guys in England always had the
problem of paying more for musical equipment thatn elsewhere in the world
but this goes too far...

Stephen.

Hi,

Yep, all true, but i import from the US!
The exchange rate is rather favourable at the moment : )

My Cs80 cost me $2100, which is about £1150.
Its in very nice condition, it just requires a general re-calibration and my kenton midi kit fitted.

Mind you, US ebay prices are starting to go up too...
a Prophet T8 just went for $3600 as well....
Glad i picked up mt T8 for £600 Heh..heh!

Regards,
Rob.

There's another one on eBay.

ViewItem&rd=1&item=3781356197&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT

The seller has good feedback. Does anyone recognize the description
or photo? What about the price on this one, if it is in as good of
condition as the description says?

Thanks.

Someone email and ask for the serial number. I would but for some
reason I scare them away. Did anyone obtain the serial number of the one
that recently ended wit the $3658 bid?

Yes, 1655. Is this legitimate? I'm asking about the one currently listed. I
haven't gotten a response back yet. Thanks.
