Thinking of selling my CS80

Thinking of selling my CS80

2009-01-07 by vestedserpent

I'm wondering if anyone is looking for a CS80. I've noticed that they are going for big bucks
lately. I would be willing to sell mine, If I can get 10k for it.
I put up some noodling I did on it. With a five layers, and a drum beat fading in and out. I'm
more of a programer, I noticed my meter is in need of repair. haha

ten years from now I think a CS80 could be worth about $50,000---just
a guess but I think collectors not players
will move over from the Les Paul market and invest

I agree - but to get that, one has to do a complete restoration, else
the circuitry will simply rot away. And, from what I am finding out,
it ain't cheap!

No circuitry does not rot away --only caps do --most IC's will last a
lifetime as well as circuit boards
put it this way a CS-80 will outlast a human being --100 years from
now people will still be playing CS80's

The last CS80 that was sold on eBay USA fetched something like 8,000 US$ so I´d say prices are coming back to normal. If people are willing to pay more, they either have too much cash or want to make sure no one else gets in their way. I know about a guy who bought a Korg PS-3300 and paid 3,000 Euro more than the original asking price, just to make sure he was the one who´d get it in the end.

I watched that one sell. I saw a guy on gearsluts ask, and get over 11k recently. I didn't think
I would want to sell mine. But, I never thought they would go for so much.

Re: Thinking of selling my CS80 / Restoration & Tuning

2009-01-08 by galaxiesmerge

Okay - but then why do services like KSR (on RL Music) offer to change
all the CMOS chips along with the Caps? I mean, I have had circuit
failure happen, chips burn out over time. Not sure if its rot or just
over-use. Luckily I have not had this happen on my CS-80 but I am
concerned and worried about it. Anyone on the forum know what
restoration really does? Or can one just do caps and tuning? Is there
a mod to make tuning better, more stable, easier?

Kent Spong of KSR has recently serviced my CS80. Kent is a forum
member and should be able to answer all of these questions.

Cheers
