SY-1 ... Happy New Year...!

SY-1 ... Happy New Year...!

2008-12-30 by Quazimodo

Happy New Year Guys...!

I have an SY-1 question... for any of you that have access to one.

I've noticed that on my SY the "Resonance" control doesn't really seem
to do much. The "Cut Off Frequency" control makes a difference, but
the "Resonance" control just seems to make the sound quieter at one
end..!

I find that the Attack Bend - TONE switch makes more of an
apparent "Resonance" difference than the actual "Resonance" control.

I am aware that Resonance might only be effective on certain presets,
probably not meant to affect all patches, but this symptom runs
throughout all the patches on mine.

Can anyone please confirm for me that this is *normal* for the SY-1..?

Many thanks,
TOM

I own a CSY-2 that i calibrated yesterday.
There is a poti on one board where you can move the center cutoff frequency.
It could be in your case that your cutoff is too high so that you don't reach deep
enough frequencies and the resonance has nothing to resonate :-)

Hi Christof...

Thanks for the reply. Would you by any chance know the poti's number
(VR?)...? Looking at the circuits diagrams - I think the SM1 board in
the SY1 and SY2 are very similar... there are 3 (possibly 4) presets
mentioned in the manuals. VR1, 2 and 3 are mentioned in the
calibration section - and I think VR4 is actually shown on the layout
but not mentioned anywhere in the text...!

But I can count 7 presets altogether on my board. So it might be
either VR5, 6 or 7...?

Cheers,
TOM

Hi Tom,
in my CSY-2 the board is named SK, and it's the VR3 poti ( see linked images, marked with a yellow arrow ).
Probably there is a difference between the SY and CSY models. As you can see on the
2nd picture everything is build with descrete components except the VCO module.
I think in the SY models there is probably more modularized stuff...
