GS-1 resources

GS-1 resources

2008-12-19 by Max Fazio

Hi
This is loosely related here except for the fact that it is a Yamaha, it's heavy , has a similar KAS and has poly aftertouch....and Scott Rider has one ;-)
I found somewhere a block diagram about the GS-1 and I'm enthusiast about it: where can I find any more resources concerning its sound path, the algorythms used, the functions in the programmer, the presets etc.? The web is so poor about it.
Thanks for anybody helping!

1994 Atlantic Vangelis Blade Runner - the first "official" Vangelis
release containing nearly an hour of music with a running time of
57:53, most of which contained newly composed themes and dialog
samples from the film mixed into selections of the film's soundtrack
cues comprised of the following 12 tracks:

1. Main Titles (3:42)
2. Blush Response (5:47)
3. Wait for Me (5:27)
4. Rachel's Song (4:46)
5. Love Theme (4:56)
6. One More Kiss, Dear (3:58)
7. Blade Runner Blues (8:53)
8. Memories of Green (5:05)
9. Tales of the Future (4:46)
10. Damask Rose (2:32)

12. Tears in Rain (3:00)

The 1993 Off-World Edition bootleg featuring nearly all of the film's
original soundtrack including the John William's composed Ladd Company
logo from the film and source music for the "Bicycle Riders"(aka
"Harps of the Ancient Temples") by Gail Laughton and "If I didn't
Care" by Jack Lawrence, but with less than acceptable CD quality sound
but features over 72:42 worth of original un-edited music from the film:

1. Ladd Company Logo (0:24) John Williams
2. Main Titles and Prologue (4:03)
3. Los Angeles, November 2019 (1:46)

16. End Titles (7:24)
17. One More Kiss Dear (4:00) Skellern & Vangelis
18. Trailer and Alternate Main Titles (1:39) Robert Randles

The 1995 Gongo Edition - an import distributed in Romania was a
slightly better quality version of the Off-World edition without the
trailer music. This release omits the 1939 recording of "If I Didn't
Care" which originally appeared in an early workprint of Blade Runner,
but was replaced by the Don Percival song "One More Kiss, Dear" in the
final version. Also includes "Blimpverts" the Japanese female blimp
vocals.

The 2003 2-Disc Esper Edition - features ambient film soundtrack
including music and effects engineered from the ambient Dolby surround
sound channels with occasional rear-channel effects mixed in but
retains all of the previously unreleased and unavailable score for
almost the full 2 running hours of the film.

Esper Edition Disc-1
1. Prologue And Main Titles (3:54)
2. Leon's Voight Kampff Test (1:09)
3. Sushi Bar - Damask Rose (2:46)

3. Esper Analysis (2:34)
4. Animoid Row (2:34)
5. Taffey Lewis Night Club (2:02)
6. Salome's Dance (1:23)
7. Zhora's Retirement (1:42)
8. I Am The Business (2:29)
9. Love Theme (4:58)
10. I Dreamt Music (4:32)
11. Morning At The Bradbury (3:46)
12. The Prodigal Son Brings Death (4:07)
13. Deckard Enters The Bradbury (3:37)
14. Dangerous Days (:57)
15. Wounded Animals (10:53)
16. Tears In Rain (2:51)
17. Rachel Sleeps (2:08)
18. End Titles (4:06)

Los Angeles, November 2019 Edition - also released in 2003 was mostly
ambient sound and atmosphere again extrapolated from the Dolby rear-
channel mix and padded with additional music taken from the Westwood
Blade Runner (PC) videogame.

Well I don't know your goal, are you just trying to hear the music or
are you collecting bootlegs and the official releases?

I guess showing the deficiencies in Wikipedia's listing...

First off why stop with the 1994 Atlantic (actually EastWest is the
label though that's part of WEA) release today when you can buy the
"Blade Runner Trilogy: 25th Anniversary" 3 CD set? Maybe you don't
approve of the new Vangelis material but it still contains a disc of
old material not on the bootlegs. (p.s. I have the 1994 EastWest
album on Brazilian LP for what it's worth... ahem... and no, it's not
for sale)

The Gongo "Romanian" bootleg was made from the "Off-World" bootleg. I
haven't A/B-ed them but you aren't going to hear any satisfying
differences, it's 94% the same thing and even more the same if it's
only Vangelis you are interested in. There may be some cleanup or fix-
up but it's not really apparent. The Gongo might have been made by
the same or some of the same people. It was probably an idea to make
more money off the "Off-World" bootleg before someone else did since
that one was a numbered edition. Sort of a quasi-bootleg of a
bootleg? You can just as soon get the Gongo if you don't want to pay
a collector's price for the "Off World" though for listening that's a
moot point given the Esper.

The Esper 2CD set incorporates the same material though perhaps
played around with slightly again, so really that should cover nearly
all of any bootleg material you might want. It contains some more
bootleg tracks than the other pair. Unless of course you are
collection the physical discs, and then there are a lot more boots
than those than the ones you've mentioned. I guess there are supposed
to be only 10 original copies of the Esper set so it's most likely
you'd get a rip of that one since it's a whole different league than
say the "Off World" which is an actual manufactured CD made in
quantities not impossible to pay collector's money for. On the other
hand without reference of a known original, if for some reason you
need an original Esper CD-R(?) it would be tough to prove you have
one of the 10 "genuine" copies.

Hi.Are you looking for the original material or burned cdrs?
'Cause I own Gongo but never paid for it, it was a present that a friend of mine made me back in 1999, I won't sell it because it is a gift; anyway if you're looking for quality music stay into the legal releases; within Blade Runner's monumental bootleg discography there are only two real worthy bootlegs: the first is the Gongo/OffWorld edition which has nothing new except for some tracks took off the famous cassette recorded back in 1982 while mixing the soundtrack for the cinema release, and it's awful and worthy only for the diehard fans (like I guess I am ;-) ) ; another one you can find it on the file sharing community and consists of some mp3 snippets of never heard on Gongo tracks (like Zhora's Dance, alternate Tales of the Future, Morning at bradbury), I believe it doesn't exist in any other form and it's quite easy to find (it's called "Blade Runner Suite" if my memory doesn't fail).
Stop, don't look elsewhere, all the bootlegs made outside of these are simply recompiled/remixed/processed versions of the same material, quite boring to me.
On the other hand I talked once to one of the guys involved into making the restoration process for the Ultimate Edition of the movie, he talked to me of about 4 hours of existing unreleased material not considering what we have on official cds which is laying into Warner's and Vangelis' vaults, enough to make anybody stop searching. Vangelis has been battling for 25 years to prevent Warner from profiting a single cent over his music (maybe they never paid him for his job!)......
