CS-80 aftertouch issues

CS-80 aftertouch issues

2005-01-08 by STEPHEN TELLER

Hi,

Maybe someone can send me in the right direction here.

I'm having certain notes that play with full aftertouch (as per the
touch response settings) no matter how lightly the key is pressed. If I
disable all touch response via the flippers those notes are no longer
modulated but are louder in volume than the rest of the notes (keyboard
control level seems to be inactive or stuck on high). Also by playing
another key in tandem with these " wild" aftertouch keys kills the
unintended modulation but the volume difference still seems to remain.
I've also lost touch response on most of the keys(recent).

Wild touch response notes- C1,Eb1,F#1,A1,C2

Functioning touch response notes- C#4,D4,Eb4,E4,F4,F#4

All other keys have no touch response

These issues just cropped up

Prior to these issues I had a few wild notes in the third octave that
gave full aftertouch while playing tandem notes (kind of opposite to
what is occurring now).
All other notes seemed to respond correctly.

I'm not a tech so if I can provide clearer information please let me
know.

Thanks! Love this List!

hi stephen,
had the same problem (and some others............yuch!)
mine has been in repairs for over 1,5 years now (techie with little time and i currentyl have no storage space)
As far as i know, and im no techie, it could be due to the kas board and old cmos chips.
But im sure the old crow will kill me for this wild speculation ;)
Any kind of modulation would be applied full on to some notes, notes would choke making playing impossible.

This probably doesnt help much but who knows it can send you in a usefull direction. Good luck!

Hi David,
Thanks for the reply. Looking at the schematics I was thinking KAS
board. Are the CMOS chips your referring to on that board?

My techie seems to have little time also.

Anxiously awaiting Old Crow's response.

Re: [yamahacs80] Re: CS-80 aftertouch issues

Every CS-80 that I've repaired with aftertouch problems needed some of
the chips on the TKC board, TSB1 board, and/or TSB2 board replaced. I
usually just replace them all. They're listed as boards 3, 4 and 5 on my
chip list:

http://www.cs80.com/chiplist1.txt

When replacing the TKC chips, use decoupled, turned-pin sockets (Mil-Max
or equivalent).
