Doing some repair work on CS-80 1459

Doing some repair work on CS-80 1459

2008-11-25 by Heath Finnie

Well after being fired up for the first time in many years there is a problem or two. (it actually
had a few, but they seem to be sorting themselves...)

1. Panel setting on Channel 1 if I turn off both oscillators there is still plenty of sound. All the
other panel controls are effecting the sound though.

2. Voice 3 on Channel 2 is outputting only noise instead of a saw/square. Sine is working
well.

Any help would be great!

Thanks,
Heath

when i had this problem, it was a bad VCO chip(153?). sine and noise are not generated there. easiest way to tell is to swap the chip out for a working voice-be careful! the legs on those types of chips are easy to bend putting them in and out of sockets. good luck-rj

Thanks for that tip. Don't know why I didn't think of that as I've done that in a P5 before.
After swapping them and the problem stayed I decided to crank up the scope and check
the waveshaper and I believe that is the problem. Now I just need to find one of those!

Thanks,
Heath
