Hi all. I just happened to see these on eBay. I don't know anything about the sellers or the items, but FYI: Yamaha EX-42 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=230274582146 Similar to a GX-1 at a fraction of the price (but not the weight!). Yamaha CS-50 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=330256812724 I know many people love these for what they are, but I see them as CS-80 spare parts kits :^) Let us know if you know more about these auctions and/or you buy them! Now that I have a CS-50 and a CS-80 side by side, it's more clear to me than ever that I love the CS-50 more. If anybody *does* take this apart, for voice cards or whatever, at least don't throw away the the keyboard. (Make me an offer!) JH.

> just curious, as i've never played a cs-50, what about it do you like more > than an 80? The obvious would be value for money, but that doesn't count - it's like comparing a guitar with a piano ... It' hard to explain. Even though I get spectacular sounds out of the '80, I never get the immediate, almost intimate contact that I get from the '50. (and got from the first minute I played a '50.) I have a CS-60, and they are very similar to the CS80, but the CS-60 doesnt have poly aftertouch. The aftertouch affects across the whole keyboard. Also not as thick a sound, since there arent as many osc in the CS50/60. The thing the CS60 has over a CS50 is that the CS50 doesnt have the ribbon controller, which I think is a crucial feature. When I bought my CS60 (back in 1970's) that was the one thing I had to have, since I couldnt afford a CS80. -Rory Rory McDonald Video Network Services 1343 El Lazo Court Camarillo, CA 93012 rorymcd@... I've played on a CS-80, but it was so long ago, I can't comment on it other than I had a great time playing it. I got my CS-50 a little over 4 years ago in like new condition and have never regretted driving halfway across the country to pick it up from the owner. It is my favorite vintage analog synth, even over my MiniMoog, for two reasons I think: The sound is rich and unique, and it has great performance playing aspects even without a ribbon and poly aftertouch. -Jim

Just saw this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190240752570 Again, don't know the unit personally, but from the description, the panel problem is probably very simple - maybe just a broken wire. --- In yamahacs80@yahoogroups.com, "David Rogoff" <david@...> wrote:
