it's alive........ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2007-12-03 by cuari7

A record-breaking 177 posts on this forum last month. Wow.
Lots of enthusiasm from CS owners.

Here's something else to be discussed, which might sound off-topic,
but believe me, it's definitely related:

Recently got a Prophet 8. Sounds great, but boy, what a crappy little
keyboard it has!
Because I am out of my mind, I removed the keybooard, hoping to
replace it with a fully-weighed (hammer-action) Fatar I have (5
octaves salvaged from an old, nonfunctional SL-990). To my dismay,
the KB panel (where the key contacts are)on the P8 is slightly
shorter (because the keys are actually smaller!), so I had to use the
innards of another KB (sorry, M-Audio....) and play it through MIDI.
Needles to say, the initial result looks like specimens on an autopsy
table (bloody mess... had to fill out a death certificate for the
warranty, of course!), but I am hoping that a little bit of carpentry
skills and good-quality timber will turn it into a worthy adversary
of its Yamaha cousin. I mean, shit, it's gonna be heavy, and sounds
awesome. Only difference is that pressure sensitivity is monophonic
(well, not the only difference, of course! you know the other obvious
ones....). It's kinda' like a Prophet T8, I guess...

Any other "creative" (read demented) projects from any of you, guys?

Well, I will have to say you have cajones for tearing up a nice new
Proteus 8
as I couldnt bear to do that.

I am working on bringing some Alphasyntauri systems back to life.
I have the keyboards, the Apple II's, and the Mountain Hardware synth
cards,
but only have 1 interface, so I have to clone some of those.
I also have a nice set of software for them.

If anyone is interested, let me know what you think.

Also I have a very rare Eventide Spectrum Analyzer board for the
Apple II,
which I might be cloning as well. It is an outboard filter set with
an interface for the computer.
I have the software for it as well, and I might try making it work
with my SPRITE board,
which is a fairly sophisticated video board for the old Apple II
series, giving it 35 layers of sprites.

I don't know why you did that. All you had to do was get a Kurzweil midiboard and hook it up to the Prophet 08.

Also, the Prophet 08 supports Poly aftertouch Midi IN only. So you can control the aftertouch like a CS80. You just need that Kurzweil controller. Mono aftertouch is a waste. Poly is the only way to go.

Because I'm demented. I said it before.
The alternative was to send it back. The end-result is much more
gratifying than the initial product.
As I said, I had to relinquish the warranty. I knew this all along,
and I'm OK with it.

Are these still available?

Right you are, friend. For now, I'm really enjoying this patchwork
instrument, and have no regrets. If I find a used Midiboard, I'll
buy it and incorporate it into this "project"

There is also this new keyboard controller with polyphonic aftertouch
that folds up in half....the name escapes me at this time.
If/when it's available, that could be a good complement for the P8.

sweet deal-glad to see you hotrodding your P8! i think its great.

only thing ive got going is i modded my micromoog today so the CV input can be scaled via an internal pot. it was 9V/octave, so it didnt play nice with my other stuff....
