Rip Van Winkle: CS-80 #1598 awakes after 20+ year snooze
2007-10-05 by billwolfer
Hi, new guy to the group here. My CS-80 has been in my garage unused for over twenty years. I got it in 1981, but I foolishly put it aside when everything went to MIDI and DX7s and all of that. I don't remember the last time I used it, but it must have been around 1985. Well, I got it out of storage yesterday, wiped off the dust from the outside, and when I opened it, I was amazed to see how clean this baby is. Hardly any dust got inside. It was stored with only the lid on it, not in any other case or cover. I wiped it down, plugged it in, and fully expected it to be totally dead, or at least severely diseased from all those years of neglect. Guess what? It's functioning perfectly, the patches under the panel are exactly as I left them, and it's only a bit out of tune (this one always held its tuning well). One voice of channel I is over a semitone flat, but other than that, it's not bad considering it hasn't been tuned for so longs. This must be one hell of a well built machine to still function after all that time. I'm going to try tuning it myself using the valuable info on Old Crow's site when I get the courage. Any suggestions for a tuning newbie?
