A CS80 find.

A CS80 find.

2007-07-10 by Quazimodo

Hi chaps,

I have found another CS80 close by me and it's up for grabs - but I am
slightly concerned. It all seems to be working apart from a couple of
voices.

(On my current CS80 which works 100%- when I bought it back in 1986 a
voice didn't sound and it turned out that someone had tweaked the
wrong preset - (VCA?) - and it just wanted setting up again..)

So this new find might well be similar.... but otherwise I am
concerned that it has live a great part of it's life stored in a damp
garage and the metalwork inside has this white powder on it. It won't
come off really and some of the brass screw bolts are dis-coloured
with it etc... My main concern is how this has affected the solder and
PCB's. Anyone here have any similar experiences and actually how bad
does it have to be visually before it's an issue?

Like I said, the synth seems to work OK except for a couple of voices
and it's in need of a tune up.

Obviously I need to base my offer on info collected from sources such
as our group here.

Many thanks in advance.
TOM

Where is it located? And how much is the owner asking for it? If you wish, you can contact me off-list with more info. Thanks in advance,

Stephen.

Hi Stephen,

It's in the UK, but it'll be me that buys it. I'm not *offering* it on
this list, just asking advice about possible problems with it's
condition..!

Cheers.
TOM

If its in the UK why not pick it up and take it direct to Kent Spong (KSR)
see if he can take it on? Im not sure how busy he is at the moment though.
Get him to restore it..?
You can get his number from the RL Music website.
Ill be getting my 80 back hopefully at the end of August after the KSR
treatment.. cant wait... :)

Yeah, I am sure the Spong treatment is great.

I get the Rogoff treatment in California! I feel lucky to have him within driving distance.

Good luck with selling it, but when you get it back from Scott, you'll want to keep it.

So I found this CS-80 and now I've gone and bought it! Now I have two.
So chances are, (it's called Sod's law) - that my mint one will never
have any issues as I now have a spare. Just need to fix two duff notes
on this latest one and clean her up a bit. Hope to have two 100% '80's
soon.

Cheerz,
Tom

congrats! that's awesome.

seeing as how you have two now, PLEASE let me know if you would consider selling one of them. i am a serious buyer, and have been looking for one forever. i could most likely take care of shipping, packaging, and pickup all myself. forgive my forthright nature, but i figure it never hurts to at least offer! thanks for your time.
