Interesting point that I can definitely agree with. When I first got my CS60, my thought was, "this is it?" I then realized it wasn't a synth in the traditional sense. I learned how to play it and I was floored. It still kind of trips me out to this day. It's like a violin; you can't just pick it up and play it without learning a bit of technique.
