In general practice, I have not needed to split sockets apart to fit the hole spacing. Pressing turned-pin sockets into the slightly wider spacing becaomes an acquired habit. Difficult at first, but it gets easier as one becomes more familiar with the procedure. One note: make sure the holes are "open" and not partially clogged with old solder. Clogged holes can result in breaking pads off the board when pushing the socket into place. Someone asked for a board overhaul order. I tend to favor this one: TKC, KAS, SH, TSB1, TSB2. I like to get the board with the most parts to replace out of the way first.
