This could be a wire issue as suggested by the second part of your post.
Concerning the coding, it does follow the conventions (at least in the pages dedicated to T51, T52 and M11 circuit board & wiring).
Here is the flow from Panel I to the M boards:
- Panel I - VCF Level slider
