I was asking about the SMD boards because I recently learned how to solder 0805 components. Maybe I'm a little over-enthusiastic, but I feel empowered by the fact that I can do it. I recently did a layout of a TR-808 bass drum PCB with 0805 parts, I hand soldered the protoboard and it works! Just the thought of assembling a replacement for a rare chip has me a little excited.
