A somewhat counter-intuitive trick is to first add more solder to the pin/pad. Then heat it up well can remove the solder. Sometimes it may still stick a little. If you're not trying to save the chip, just cut the leads off and pull them out with pliers as you apply a little heat. If it's a power pin and there's a huge power plane on the board it can be a pain since all the copper will suck the heat away. David
