Re: [yamahacs80] How is Vangelis changing sounds on his CS-80?

2009-01-15 by Max Fazio

By the way, Vangelis among his nine CS80 made some initernal tweaks, though very few ones, for example he stretched the envelope times in the ringmodulator (listen to the track "See you later" from the same titled album); the highest of his modding was in the late seventies where he used to drive external CVs into some semimodular synthesizers (namely, Korg PS-3300) to get insane noises (for example the intro to the track "CHung Kuo" from 1977 "China" album); obviously he's been ever more of a "preset guy" so it was the ingenious Raphael Preston, his engineer at the times, who provided the self built tools for specific tasks.

Hi everyone, please have a look at this YouTube vid.

At 49" he reaches beyond the CS to access a string synth and then a
choir patch mixed with strings, but plays these via the CS-80's
  keyboard.

Did he have his CS-80 modified to send Midi Out?...Seems that way.

  Tommy
