SOS - XPANDER not powering up.

SOS - XPANDER not powering up.

2008-03-10 by Mati

Hi all,

Bit if sheer terror here tonight. My Xpander is not powering on. The
light on the power switch is not lighting up either. I tried a
different power lead and a different outlet. Nothing.

Was working fine earlier today. Is there a fuse on these somewhere I
could check ? it is on a surge protector and all my other gear is
working just fine.

If the PSU has gone south - how hard are these to fix/replace?

/m

Hi Mati,

Don't panic! There is a fuse inside the Xpander. If you pop
the lid, you'll see it on the power supply board.

I have some photos of the PSU board in mine, for what it's
worth: http://xpander.geek.nz/my-xpander-psu.html

The PSUs were never the highest-quality part of an Oberheim
synth, from what I can gather. If it isn't the fuse, it
might just be a blown rectifier diode or something similar.
If you can read a schematic and operate a multimeter, you
should be able to track down the problem.

Good luck!

you guys are life savers, the fuse was blown, so for $3.29 and a trip
to Ace Hardware - the Xpander is back up and running!

I love you all.

Easy, just undo the screws along the front edge and the ones
at the top of the wooden end pieces and the whole front
panel swings up on a big hinge at the back.

Good to hear your Xpander is alive again! Sorry if I muddied
the waters with pictures of my non-standard PSU... ;)

Cheers,
