strange voice board ROM version ?

strange voice board ROM version ?

2008-01-05 by baumont987

Hi,

I've just a question about the voice board ROM version: As far as I
knew, the latest version was 1.4, but my XP is showing 1.6 (and it's
what is written on the chip too).
soft: 1.2, voice: 1.6, cassette: 1.0

I made some investigations on internet, and I found that the 1.6
version is normally a Matrix 12 version. Are the voice board ROM chips
compatible ?

Don't know if this is linked to, but my XP was made in october 86, and
I bought it from a German recording studio some years ago, so perhaps
a repair was made in the past and the eprom replaced by a Matrix 12 one...

the beast is working fine.

Any clue ?

thanks,
Greg.

This is interesting. If it works without any problems, then the voice EPROMs must be
compatible, or, at least that part what Xpander is using.

Cheers,
Tiitu.

In fact, if you look inside a M12,
(http://www.sequencer.de/oberheim/oberheim_xpander.html) you can see
that they are 2 voice boards (to get the 12 voices). I think the board
themselves are very similar or identical (like Roland Super JX-10 vs
JX8P), and the voice software too. Surely it is not the case for the
main board software, since extra features are to be handled somewhere...
