An alternative I've seen suggested (for e.g. the QY70 group) is to just create a new group and encourage all active members to join that. Then the photos and files can be manually migrated across and the "best" email threads re-posted to the new group, and all the emails are available in the Yahoo archive for as long as that lasts.
