Roland XP-60 F switch replacing

Roland XP-60 F switch replacing

2015-06-19 by Wayne Seims

Hi, can anyone advise on replacing F switches on a Roland XP60, these are the ones on the front just below the screen.

I'm not looking for detailed instructions but I can see that 3 of them will need replacing and it looks like a pig of a job to get in there!, do I really have to take out / disconnect just about every panel or am I missing the obvious?

If you've done this can you advise likely time it takes?

Thanks

Wayne

Yes, you pull just about everything up or off. I do not recall if the manual give step by step. Not in the shop today, if you need, let me know.

I would replace all tac switches while you are in there, as mostly all will go bad. Switches are 25 to 50 cents, time is the costly part. If you buy them on the open market, get the ones meant for the highest number of closers, like Alps, etc.

Just mark where any stand offs or brackets go by outlining with a marking pen, mark any cables too to aid in re-assembly. Don't mix the plastic machine screws with the metal screws.

I didn't do it on this instrument, but my general advices are:

- Replace all panel switches when you have the instrument opened. If
not - sooner or later some other will fail...

- Place the instrument panel down on some soft pillow or similar.

- During disassembling the instrument take a lot of pictures.

- Describe all screws where they belongs.

- Make remarks about each step, when assembling, follow all steps in
reverse order.

- Use static protective bags for boards, take care concerning this
danger - not to damage circuits.

- Be careful when disconnecting connectors.

Did I forget something?

Good luck.

I did my XP 50 and disassembly did take a while, maybe 30 minutes work but there are a couple of small connectors that are easy to miss. Hard to access and reattach them if you screw the boards back in first. My advice is to make detailed notes as you disassemble and take photos of each step. If you took your time and document it then plan for 1 hour.

Lots of screws.....easy to mix up too.

I use an empty egg carton. Number each well 1...12 put screws in and note in log book what board they come from.....works for me!

From memory I ended up removing the key bed.

OK, now fixed, it WAS a pain in the **** though as just about everything needed to be removed, including the keyframe.

I've been fixing stuff for 40 years, I need to be less of a wuss when presented with these tasks! :)
