SH-101 battery cover

Hello, I have an sh-101 that I have had for awhile. It works perfectly. The battery door cover was like welded shut so I decided to avoid it. Today I ventured in. The color of it is off-grey and the previous owner told me someone had probably replaced it with a bad aftermarket that didn't fit right. I finally pried it loose. I had to break the plastic that was hinged to the door. I tried putting batteries in and it wouldn't power on. I tested them all. They were all good for 1.5 volts. I also tested the battery compartments for continuity and didn't get any. Does anyone know if this is a common problem? Seems strange that everything else would work but this. Does anyone know a good aftermarket or source for battery covers? I see perfectcircuitaudio has a kit for $37 that is a whole repair kit. I have had problems with him before and am worried he won't take it back if it doesn't fit. Any help would be appreciated.
