Moog Source membrane switches

2013-07-03 by Nicolas

Hi everybody,

I'm trying to repair a Moog Source that has a few problems. So far I was able to fix the problems by reinstalling a new 5 volts regulator and doing a cleanup of the internal connectors.

But the problem I'm having is that there is a few membrane switch that does not work.
The defective switches are located at the right of the synthsizer: OSC1, all of the switches of the Voltage Controlled Filter, all the S and R switches of the ADSR.
So far I've tried to swap the chips in the matrix circuit but that did not help.
I guess the membrane itself is defective.

Is there any way to repair the membrane if only a group of switches are defective?
Thank you!

Nicolas

Chipsforbrains/technology transplant, which may or may not have gone out of
business remanufactured that front membrane. Try sam at syntaur.com in case
he still has old stock of it from them. He used to buy wholesale off them.

Feedback on shipping from technologytransplant.com has been uncertain in the
last six months, they may or may not ship. Its listed at the old real
bargain price of 89.90

http://www.technologytransplant.com/index.php?cPath=30_62_54 I asked them
directly what was up and got no answer. Feel like a gambler?

Years ago I had zero feedback from them and received eventually 2 kits for
an 808 & a 909 rebuild. I notice they have disappeared off ebay.

Sometimes I get too subtle. My reading of them is this: you have to decide
whether you want to risk throwing the money away and buy one at their site
and wait for it to a) arrive, or b) never arrive.

My experience is they will never (either way) answer your email of inquiry.
They have always been like that in good or bad times. If b just send 1-2
complaining emails (after 6 weeks) and then give up.

I know this is not the ANorth American model but it is what happens. But
ask sam first. He will do exactly what he says promptly. Or he may be able
to get it in one last shipment if they are closing down.

Hi,

Thanks for the information. I sent them a message and wait for a response.

I was wandering if I could remove the front cover and try to repair the
defective trace circuit of the membrane.
Anybody ever tried that?

Thanks!

Nicolas

Arp PrDGX parts?

2013-07-06 by Jim Blair

Hey folks,

I have an unhappy ProDGX that's been in for repair. There appears to be a faulty chip that goes by the name "CTS resistor network B-2701-011".

The tech is having problems sourcing a replacement. Can anyone on the list help, either with the part or a source?

Apparently, if this chip is truly unobtainium, a bunch of trim pots can be added into the circuit to do the job. Of course, I'd rather have the original part.

Thanks!

That is a fixed resistor "network"...You can find the values used in the schematic diagram and THEN buy some 1/8 watt leaded resistors to make a new network

Yes, they are really unobtainium.
Fortunately, this is just a resistor network, and the resistor values are in the service manual.
You will need a lot of trimmers to do the work.
I just tried to create this with matched resistors (of fixed value), but it was not precise enough, so I will have to re-do the job with trimmers on my ProDGX as well.

Re: Moog Source membrane switches

2013-08-26 by Nicolas

Hi,

I ordered a membrane switch panel from Technology Transplant and it never arrived. After a month I contacted them but they never replied. So, I asked Paypal for a refund and got my money back.

Instead, I was able to repair the original switch panel. This is not an easy job but it can done. I peeled off the membrane switch and repaired the broken traces with conductive paint like Caikote 44. I also repaired the flex cable using thin wires that I "soldered" to the traces of the membrane using conductive paint.

Now, the only problem I have is to tune the synth. I did not find all the trimpots that are mentioned in the service manual. Maybe there is a few different versions.
Anybody knows how to tune the oscillators?

Thank you!
