Identify a Moog Module?

Identify a Moog Module?

2009-09-07 by noddyspuncture

Hi folks,

I was wondering if anyone here could identify a Moog Modular module for me. Looking on the Moog Archives site - http://moogarchives.com/ - on both the 1968 and 1974 modular photos, there is a 3 unit wide module bottom left of both cabinets (two units in the 1968 photo) that doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere and I can't find it on the Modules list either.

Anyone know what it might be?

Cheers.
Tom

I'll try to guess: Ring Modulator? It's strange why it's not
mentioned anywhere...

I think it is the power supply and the 3 things on it are fuses.

It sure is not a power supply; and it is not 3 unit wide (it's actually 4
unit wide; the front plate and functionality is divided into two sections).

It's the CP3A module; it's also in the module list.

dude I built this unit,it is the power supply,it has 3 fuses on it.look at the unit I built and you will see it,the only difference is that I used different color fuse caps,by the way I was the Moog Norlin authorized service center for Cleveland Ohio back then.

It looks really like CP3A, just that four jack "Multiple" is not
there...

Hmmm....Timothy..... its the module on the LEFT side. Looks like a CP3.
Power supply ist RIGHT.
Am I wrong?

Best Regards
Martin

Well, it certainly is visible in the 1968 modular pictures and in the 1974
pictures for the Moog 35 and 55 (just not for the 15).

http://machines.hyperreal.org/manufacturers/Moog/Modular/info/moog.15.txt

gives this description:

" The 15 has:

     (1) 921A Oscillator Driver
     (2) 921B VCO
     (1) 923 Random Noise/Filter
     (1) 921 VCO
     (2) 911 Envelope Generator
     (2) 902 VCA
     (1) 904A VC Lowpass Filter
     (1) 907A Fixed Filter Bank (optional, added cost)
     (1) 995 Atenuators Panel
     (1) 4-input Mixer with Multiples
     (1) Reversible Attenuator
     (1) CV/Trigger Output Panel

The last three items were not standard Moog modules, they are specific
to the 15 (the bottom row, below the VCO's). Inside is a power supply.
"

So the module in question is the "4-input Mixer with Multiples". I've found
mentioning of a CP-3 module without switches in the wikipedia.

It appears there have been various modules with similar functionality.

"CP" seems to mean "Console Panel".

The bottom panel in the Moog 15 and Moog 10 seems to have been built as a
single unit, containing the 4-input mixer, an attenuator the CV/Trig
interface and the Power Supply; the panels for the Moog 10 and 15 differ
slightly (as far as I can deduct from photos).

The CP-3A seems to have been the one used in the Moog 35 and 55; this one
contains the additional 4-way multiple in the mixer and the switch section
to the left.

There seems to be another variant used in the 3P; this one looks almost
like the CP-3A (including the switch section) but with a switch instead of
the "multiple" section in the mixer.

Re: Identify a Moog Module?

Thanks for all the replies guys - I can now see that it is indeed the CP3... I looked at the section on the left as another module which threw me.

I have another question though...
The 901a and 901b modules. If you have, say, three oscilators (for audio) being controlled by one 901a, and you introduce another, 4th 901b osc for modulation duties - would that 4th 901b (osc) also need a dedicated 901a (controller) of it's own?

Cheers,
Tom
